Souvenirs

So today was the day to give the V-Strom a bit of a birthday so I could then check her out for damage following her little lie down the other night.  Here's a few pics of her pre-clean:

After looking at the above photo and then a bit closer, lookee what I found:

A piece of Takapari Road!
And so it was time for action!

And the result:

Sparkly!
After the was I got some polish onto those scratches on the LHS and now they look a bit better:

Don't look too close at that reflection
Other damage included a bent bar-end weight bolt (straitened it out no worries)  and a broken plastic fairing push-pin (will have to pick one up).  The hand guard also has some scratches (who cares) and my home-made GoPro mount on the fairing bracket got bent - I want to make a more solid one anyway...

So pretty lucky really - hope that's her last lie down for a while!

  1. Dirty bikes are like a badge of honor aren't they?

The bike cleaned up real nice. It is good that most of the scratches polished out. Just blame them on the "previous owner". That seems to be the trend.

  2. Souvenirs are awesome. Even if it is a bit rough picking them up. :-)

    That bath did wonders.

  3. Oh look, there is a bike under all that dirt. And the scratches are just adding to the bike's character... ;-)

    1. I just don't want her to become too much of a character...

  4. As Sonja said, battle scars give the Strom character....as to washing one's ride, key action in order to detect leaks and such....

  5. Motorcycling is very tiring business and bikes like to lay down once in awhile, we call it napping (Tiger owners especially, call it cat napping).
I was surprised to see you use a power washer, I have the same model but would be afraid to use it on my bike for fear of peeling the paint, getting water into important electrical connections, gauge clusters and lenses.
Looks like she came out just fine and simply looks more "experienced" now.

    1. Yeah, I'm very careful with the water blaster - I hold it well away from anything sensitive. This is the first bike I've needed a water blaster for. When I was riding dirt bikes there was no such thing...

    1. Thanks Roger - you would have enjoyed the ride. Probably a bit too much of an adventure for the poor old Vee.
