The Bay and back

This weekend Mark, Shelley and I had a quick overnight trip to the Bay to help celebrate Mark's brother's (Clinton) 40th birthday.

We left a hot and muggy Palmy and promptly got stuck in traffic going over the Saddle - puttering along in first gear behind other traffic all stuck behind a truck.  Luckily we were on bikes and were actually able to find a way pass and enjoy the rest of the road with few hold-ups.  In Woodville Mark topped up the Bandit before we carried on up the road and into some roadworks on SH2.  Oh well, at least I got to enjoy a little bit of gravel on the DL...

North of Danniverke we turned off to take in Ormonville and Takapau before cruising up through Waipuk and Waipawa.  In Waipawa Mark turned off SH2 again and we got to take in Middle Road to Havelock North - always a great little ride.  From there it was just a short ride to my folks place where I was forced to have a fantastic gurnad dinner before heading out for the party.

After a bit of a late night I was back on the road about 9:30 and rode over to Clive for fuel and then to pick up Mark and Shelley at Mark's parents' place in Haumoana before back tracking a little to take SH50 home.  We had a good run down to Danniverke where once again the Bandit needed some juice for the last leg home via Topgrass and Pinfold Roads and the Saddle again.  More trucks and a sneaky cop to avoid and we were soon dropping down into Ashhurst and then back home less than 24 hours after we left.  Still a good excuse for a skid...

  1. Looks like a good run Andrew. You live in a reat part of the country.

  2. Parties are a good excuse for an overnight ride - like we need an excuse.

And welcome Clinton to the 40 club. It is a good place to be.
