The old and the new

I've just got back from having my pocket picked by the government (WOF & Rego) and it seems that Connie riders are early risers - when I got to the testing station there was only one car and an '87 Concours 1000.

It turns out the rider is the same guy I see quite regularly as he rides past my place on his way to work.  Funnily enough we had a few things in common so had a bit of a chat.  He loves his bike but doesn't do as much touring now but rides it to work everyday - I often see it parked up with a cover over it.

His bike has 104,000km on it so I told he better work on that as at 83,000km I was catching him up!  I'm hoping to hit the 100,000km mark next year...

I love my Connie!

You're a hardcore rider. Luckily we don't have to do any bike testing here

    1. Not sure if I'm that hard core - it's taken 5 years to get here (bike is an '08 model but released in '07).

This last year I've put less k's on it than ever...I've been riding that black thing a fair bit and ignoring the poor old Connie. Got to do something about that...

    1. The pick-pocketing? Lets not go there eh...

  3. I wish we had some road testing of bikes, cars and trucks over here. This morning I rode behind a pick-up that decided to lose a piece of his exhaust. Thankfully I wasn't hit by the debris.

I hate those rust buckets on the road and would gladly pay for regular vehicle inspection with mandatory service, or otherwise those things get pulled off the road.

Your Connie is a very reliable bike it seems. Way too big for me to handle, though.

    1. Man, you shouldn't have to dodge bits of people's vehicles!

The Connie would surprise you...it loses it's bigness as soon as you're rolling. I was was worried about it before I rode one but the test ride proved it wasn't an issue.

  5. Although they look different there is a familiarity between the old and new.
(Too bad the odometer isn't with the rider's butt for total ks counted regardless which bike you ride, that way you don't have to choose favorites)

    1. Not sure if there'd be too many wanting to check my odo then...

  6. Like Bob and Sonja, we don't have motorcycle testing here. Gasoline cars and trucks do. Diesel vehicles are exempt. And so are vehicles over 20 years old. Does that make you wonder if the system might be a little goofed up?

Hope you and the Connie spend some special time together and reach your goals. :)

    1. Yeah a little weird...

Do I need to start thinking about a present for when she hits the 100k mark?

      Perhaps another farkle...

  7. Congrats Andrew!

Planning to hang onto it? I'd say that motor is pretty unburstable. Several UK Blackbird owners have now gone beyond half a million miles with nothing more than a cam chain tensioner change!

    1. Definitely a keeper Geoff! I'm sure she'll got forever - the motor is never working hard and sounds as sweet as when I test rode it.
