BRR Waikaremoana and Motu Day Two

After a leisurely brekkie in Whakatane we made our way across to Opotiki to fuel up before tackling the mighty Motu.

It was quite windy and when we turned onto Moto Road we were heading straight into it for a while. The seal road very quickly turned into a hard packed gravel road with some good sized little rocks in place the desired smooth grit.

The road got very narrow and tight too and a bit of care was required to prevent yaself from becoming a hood ornament on a 4WD. Luckily vehicles were pretty few and far between and mountainbikers are a lot softer.

All the way through to Motu we were surrounded in great bush, just occasionally popping out into more open farmland. After a regroup at Motu we took the short trip up to check out the Motu falls.

Photos taken we returned to Motu and carried on towards Gisborne but turned off onto Whakarau Road which took us through more bush and farmland. There were a couple of neat climbs and even four small fords to splash through.

This was our gravel blast and we enjoyed wet tar and a decent downpour on our cruise into Gisborne for the night. Another fantastic day's riding - one to go!

    1. To be honest we didn't bounce off too many of them either.
