PR4 GT half life (?) review

Well Geoff has been raving about his PR4's on his wee Suzuki so I thought that maybe I should give a quick  review after 6,700km on the 280kg Connie.

First up some terrible pictures - I don't seem to be able to take a tyre photo that can actually show tread depth...

Rear

Front

Bad pictures they may be but I'm pretty happy with the wear on them and they look like they've got a few more kms left in them.  Maybe a photo in ten days time will show a different story...

Geoff has already raved about the handling and wet weather performance of the PR4's and I can only agree with his comments.

I have found that on the Connie, the tyre pressure does definitely play a part in how good they feel on the road.  I rode the bike a few weeks ago with at around 4psi less than normal and they definitely didn't feel as good as they did last weekend with the correct pressure.  At the right pressure they simply feel like the profile is spot on and the bike handles fantastically well.

So at 6,700km they are looking pretty good and I'm hoping for great things: PR2's have been my favourite in terms longevity, the PR3's not so good.  People say that the 4's handle like 3's but last longer so I'm looking forward to hopefully proving that correct...

  1. It looks like you've been using pretty much all of the tire, not just the center. Good for you! I haven't had that opportunity in a few years. I'm still running PR2's on both the Zx14 and the FJR. I hope to wear out the tires on one of them this year so I can try out a set of the PR4's.

I'd have to double check my books, but I think I got a little over 10,000 miles on the last set of 2's. I'm very happy with them.... I just need more travel time!

    1. We have these things called corners over here Erik ;) and the Connie loves them!

I'd love to get 10,000 miles from a set of tyres! NZ roads have fairly coarse chip on them in some areas and make short work of bike rubber.

  2. I like your level of OCD there Andrew! Seems I am not the only person to keep logs and lists then? ;)

    1. Oh, you have no idea...no, I won't share all my stats - people might think I'm a geek or something ;)

  4. I've really liked the PR3s on my XR1200: They've proven to be a great tire for corners, at least in my experience (sounds like in others' experience as well). I'm glad to hear that the PR4s seem to be offering more life with little--if any--loss of road-feel. Good info, man.

    1. Cheers, I really like the way they feel on the road. I'm really hoping that they last better than 3's too.

  5. I really wish I had kept a chart like that for the tires I have had on my bike. Thinking the Dunlop American Elite has been the best for me, but I think I will keep track of them in the future like you have, maybe a few buddies as well to give me an overall picture

    1. Not a bad idea. Nice to be able to have a bit of an idea around expected mileage. Much harder to compare road feel n you always replace a poor handling shot tyre with a nice new one...
