TT2000 Write-up - Day 7

Day seven was a day off riding (although of course the Tenere was my transport around town) with some important sightseeing to be done.

First up was the big one – Motorcycle Mecca. This is one heck of a collection of old bikes which has just moved from Nelson to Invercargill. I was lucky enough to meet up with Phil and Steve there and we had a great time wandering around the bikes.  All the photo's are here or you can try out the slideshow below:

After a quick drink it was off up the road to the Transport Museum which is another outstanding collection of old trucks, cars and other equipment. Once again this is a fantastic museum and takes some getting around due to the amount of stuff in there. Well worth a visit.  All the photo's are here or you can try out the slideshow below:

Last stop of the day was to visit E Hayes Hardware shop. A hardware shop? Yep, a very special shop. Mr Hayes just so happens to have quite the collection of old bikes (and a few cars) on display in the shop. These also just happen to include Burt Munro’s Indian and Velocette record breaking bikes – a must see.  All the photo's are here or you can try out the slideshow below:

Not a bad way to spend a day off!

    1. I wonder if there's a more interesting hardware shop in the world?
