New peepers

Ok, so since having the DL I've mentioned a few times how in cold weather or humid conditions I have a lot of trouble with my glasses and visor fogging.  Chuck in rain and the normally a lot slower riding pace and the problem doesn't want to go away in a hurry.

Recently I decided enough was enough and that it was time to give contacts a go.  It's been a bit of a drawn out affair but on Sunday I finally got to go for my first ride with contacts in.

Thanks GoPro - it appears that you are working...
I didn't go for a huge ride just up over the Track, through Ballance and back to Ashhurst via The Saddle.  Still plenty of good corners and sites to enjoy.

Connie a bit lighter after this corner...
Heading through to Ballance

Climbing the Saddle

I managed to stay on the road and not bounce off anything so it looks like the contacts work well enough for me to see ok so that's a fairly important test passed.  The only issue I had was that every single time I either put my helmet on or took it off I was reaching either to put my glasses on or take them off...

I'm picking that in those "foggy" conditions on the DL I should be able to either crack the visor or raise it completely even in the rain and not have to worry about either fogging or rain obscuring my vision - look forward to it!

  2. You might find some new found speed in your riding now that you'll be able to see a bit better. Ride on bro!

  3. Well at least your contacts didn't fog up, lol.

We have a local guy that uses a Scorpion snowmobile heated face shield in the winter to keep fogging at bay. Sounds great if it works.

  4. Interesting to hear how they work long term. I ended up going back to glasses as the correction was better than contacts and for me, less hassle. My solution to the fogged lenses and visor was a new helmet with a PinLock visor. No more visor fogging and if I leave the visor closed (in cold weather) my glasses don't fog up.

    1. Yes, the correction is not as good as my glasses but pretty close. I have a pinlock in my road helmet but can't get one for my adv helmet. The lower speeds and crappy weather in winter are my enemy.

  5. Someone laughed at me on response to this before, but here goes. I am a diver too. A little secret for divers is to put a dot of JOY dishwashing liquid inside the goggles. I have done the same in rainy conditions on my riding goggles. It works. Don't put a lot, just a small dot and rub it around otherwise you will tear up. I don't wear full face... just goggles, so I haven't tested that one.

    1. I've used that method on my bathroom mirror! I've also tried anti-fog treatments on my glasses and visor to no avail. :(

  7. I am thinking of venturing into contact land. We are coming to the soggy moist time of year here and the constant fogging of the specs is distracting and a pain. I have just never worn them before and am a little worried about sticking things in my eyes, I guess though as with everything you get used to it eventually.

    1. It's still early days for me but I'd say give it a go. It is weird sticking things in your eyes but everyone is telling me it gets easier and easier. I have no trouble getting them out now but sometimes it's a bit of a wrestle to get them in.

After using trial ones (a not that many actually) I'm now onto my first box which has enough for 45 days so I'm going to use them pretty regularly (rather than just for riding) to make sure I get the hang of 'em properly.
