After I got home tonight I had a quick look at the tyre and besides a few nicks here and there I couldn't seem to find the cause of the puncture. So I fired up the compressor and blew the tyre up to about 60 psi. After turning the compressor and the radio off I could hear a pretty good hiss from the tyre...
So five minutes later the shed looked like this:
Incidentally, the tyre now has just under 4,000km of hard riding on it so it looks like it's lasting as advertised - fingers crossed!
Was that a puncture or a split? Hopefully they can repair it, if not it sounds like you re buying a new tyre.
ReplyDeleteHopefully just a puncture - the shop may have to vulcanise it if it's too big. Looks like it'll be fixable anyway.
DeleteAndrew:
ReplyDeleteOh Oh, looks like the tire is cracked. You may need a new one. Can't believe that you can't get more mileage out of those.

Sounds like it's fixable Bob. It's got heaps of life left in it as longs as the air stays in it!
Deletepretty disappointing to go out to the bike and find something not up to snuff.
ReplyDeleteYeah - I had to take the car to work!
DeleteIsn't that a Heidenau? Those sidewalls are so stiff you can run them flat and not know it. ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a Heidenau. I'm pretty sure it stayed up all the way home and then went down over night.
DeleteI've had around 7 punctures in about 25 years of road riding and only 4 of them caused issues during a ride, the other 3 going down after the bike had been parked.
