    1. Hi. I was a fair way up the Rakaia Valley. Rode it until I got to the end of the line

    2. Amazing place. I checked it out on Google Earth -- what a trip. The Rakaia River is intense and looks like wilderness. And then on each side of the river is this intense agricultural patchwork of fields right up to the mountains. Looks like New Zealand doesn't waste a square inch of growing space.

    3. Plenty of agriculture but still lots of untamed wilderness. It would be pretty hard work farming up that valley - hot and dry in summer and freezing cold in winter.

    Is the river low or is that it's normal level?

    1. I'd imagine that the river is very low compared to during spring or after heavy rain.

      Lots of low rivers at the moment but we get a lot of rain too...
